Project Description
My Capstone group, the Quantum Eels, consisted of myself, Jacob George, Clay Kress, Cody Jacobs, Andrew Rusin, and Wyatt Massey. I served as Team Lead and focused on current sensing. Our sponsor, Pico Technology, asked us to make a portable multimeter with benchtop accuracy. Their vision was a DMM that would extend their 3000E Series of PC-based oscilloscopes.
This project had solid technical challenges. The sponsor wanted each subsystem to have galvanically isolated grounds. Measuring voltage, current, resistance, inductance, and capacitance are cornerstones of sensing systems. With three sensing subsystems, a controlling MCU, a BNC backplane for time-based measurements with the user’s oscilloscope, a power distribution system, and a software front end, every team member had technical responsibilities.
